Anne Godenir RIP

Your memory is like a well-loved book that one reads incessantly and never closes)

On August 12, 2017 Anne Godenir, died (1964-2017).
We know her as a person who worked very hard to improve adult literacy in the French speaking part of Belgium.
Anne was a good friend, member of IDEC and FELA and the president of theABLF Association belge pour le lecture – section francophone.
On behalf of IDEC & Fela Jeroen Clemens (Netherlands) and Ariana – Stanca Văcăreţu (Romania) attended the funeral and paid respect to the family. From the ABLF Patricia Schillings and several colleagues were there.
We have lost a very dear friend. Anne, you will always be in our minds. Our thoughts are with Xavier, her partner, her children and the family and close friends.

Elinet New Association & Thematic Working Group Digital Literacy

This post is bilingual,  English & Nederlands

” Full members are individuals working in the area of literacy. They have a vote at the annual General Assembly (GA) and are eligible for the (EC).  Bekijk hier de doelen en plannen.

Go English version

De visie van Elinet is “that everyone in Europa shall be literate. The term ‘literacy’ covers all forms of reading and writing (written communication) in print and digital media.” Ook publiceerde Elinet een European Declaration of the Right to Literacy.

English version

On the 20th European Literacy Conference, Elinet,  European Literacy Policy Network, had his own symposium. On July 5th, Elinet changed from an institution were only legal bodies were members into an Elinet Association, were individual experts will be the preferred members. Full members are individuals working in the area of literacy. They have a vote at the annual General Assembly (GA) and are eligible for the executive committee (EC). Look here for more details

I was invited to become a member of the Thematic Working Group (TWG) Digital Literacy. I’m glad to contribute to this working group.

The vision of Elinet is “that everyone in Europa shall be literate. The term ‘literacy’ covers all forms of reading and writing (written communication) in print and digital media.” There is a large group of European countries collaborating in Elinet. Elinet published the European Declaration of the Right to Literacy.and did research with grants from the European Union,  Lifelong Learning Programme.
The Elinet website will be updated soon and give all the information about the new association and the symposium in Madrid.

I was one of  the founding members of Elinet Network (and the only founding father). Its a new and promising challenge. I keep you informed.

  • literatuuronderwijs;
  • leesbevordering;
  • innovatie, w.o. nieuwe media;
  • taalbeschouwing;
  • taalvaardigheid secundair/voortgezet onderwijs;

Wilt u graag iets presenteren?

ELINET EU project on Literacy

One in five 15-year-old Europeans, as well as nearly 75 million adults, lack basic reading and writing skills. Not only does this make it hard for them to find a job, it also increases their risk of poverty and social exclusion.
The European Literacy Policy Network ELINET was initiated to gather and analyze policy information; exchange policy approaches, good practice, and initiatives and raise awareness of the importance of acting now to reduce the number of children, young people and adults with low literacy skills by 2020. ELINET is formed of 79 partner organizations from 28 countries.
 The network has received funding from the European Commission to complete a two year work program. During this time, it will develop tools that can be used by different members as well as supporting existing and encouraging new activities. You can visit the EU Elinet project site (still under construction).
On the Annual Convention of the International Reading Association in New Orleans, 10 – 12 of May 2014, Christine Garbe and Renate Valtin talked about the EU-Project Elinet. You can find the presentation here ELINET_Presentation-IRA conference New Orleans_final version

Proof of my international work on literacy ;-)

As I told you in a recent blogpost I’m also active in the International Development in Europe Committee of the International Reading Association. In the last Reading Today magazine of the IRA there is an article on the one of our activities, the International Leadership Workshop in Ljubljana last januari.
See the picture below taken of that article. Even more interesting because you can see me in the picture at the right side upper corner. So, this is proof I really participated 😉
