Profile

I am an expert in language education and digital literacy, with more than 40 years of experience as a teacher of Dutch, teacher educator, researcher, consultant and educational innovator. My mission is to improve language education — whether through effective teaching approaches, learning materials or the integration of language education across the curriculum.

I also believe that digital literacy should be much more strongly integrated into language education. The two reinforce each other, making education more meaningful, future-proof and accessible to all learners.

My work is characterised by:

✅ Practice-oriented innovation – Developing educational programmes such as Verborgen Familieverleden and digital learning environments such as Octopus and Het Heelal.

✅ International collaboration – Active in European networks, including ELINET, FELA and ILA, and involved in educational policy development, for example through the Dutch Council for Culture.

✅ Research & publications – Contributing to professional handbooks, including Handboek Didactiek Nederlands and Handboek Digitale Geletterdheid, as well as academic articles on reading education, pedagogy and digital skills.
