De problemen met afwezigheid van vrouwen in de media en de manier waarop zij vaak worden aangesproken is groot. Ik wil jullie aandacht vestigen op de oproep van UNESCO.

In 2012, UNESCO published its first Gender-Sensitive Indicators for Media (GSIM) to “contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment in and through media of all forms, irrespective of the technology used”. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is in charge of revising the indicators and has launched an online survey to evaluate users’ understanding of the indicators.

Through a short survey, the IFJ would like to assess how the indicators have been used and collect recommendations for strengthening their implementation in the future and reinforcing gender equality in the media.… Read the rest

(Nederlands/ English) Deze week is er in Georgië een interview met mij verschenen over digitale geletterdheid in het talenonderwijs. Het interview is verschenen in het online tijdschrift van de National Teacher Professional Development Centre, Internet Journal Mastsavlebeli.ge, en afgenomen door Paata Papava, een lerarenopleider en onderwijsexpert. Het interview vond plaats in de zomer 2019 in Tbilisi tijdens mijn solo motorreis naar de Kaukasus. Hier de Georgische versie, goed voor je taalgevoel. De veelgeprezen documentaireserie Klassen van omroep HUMAN geeft een gezicht aan de groeiende kansenongelijkheid in het onderwijs in Nederland. De serie, gemaakt door Sarah Sylbing en Ester Gould, maakt duidelijk dat het niet alleen anders kan, maar ook anders moet.

Klassen gaat het land in om met beleidsmakers en onderwijsprofessionals te werken aan het verbeteren van de onderwijskansen van elk kind. Fragmenten uit de serie dienen als startpunt voor gesprek. Wat is de lokale problematiek? Wat werkt er al goed en wat kan beter?… Read the rest

HSN-34 kon niet plaatsvinden wegens de COVID-problematiek. Daarom organiseren we dit jaar een digitale conferentie.

Een succesvolle HSN-33 in Zwolle is achter de rug. HSN-34 kon niet plaatsvinden wegens de COVID-problematiek. Om een meer dan dertig jaar lange traditie niet te onderbreken, organiseren we deze digitale conferentie want ook in coronatijden blijft het onderwijs Nederlands in de kern van elk onderwijscurriculum.

En dat is meer dan terecht! Is het niet via taal dat mensen betekenissen en dus kennis – een niet onbelangrijk goed in onze kennismaatschappij – construeren? Binnen de HSN Onderwijs Conferentie Nederlands trachten de deelnemers in de vele bijdragen antwoorden te zoeken op de vaak complexe en moeilijke oefening die het onderwijs Nederlands met zich meebrengt, vaak in een multilinguale context.

Digital literacy asks for a change of the definition of literacy, an update of the necessary language skills and a new language curriculum to make education relevant and up to date.

One of the major tasks of a language teacher is to increase pupils’ literacy: to be able to read and write well, and to deal with information critically and in a well-considered way. Nowadays, all information is on the internet and communication is mainly online. Acquiring, processing and providing information online is different and more complex than when we mainly used offline, paper, sources. Researchers, teachers and politicians are convinced that everyone must be digitally literate in order to become active citizens in this online society.… Read the rest
